About Us

Our Roots

Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ, (Jamaica) is among the most forthright oneness apostolic organisations in Jamaica. The Diocese is an offshoot of Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ International, established in England under the visionary leadership of Bishop Sydney Alexander Dunn.

From 1955, Bishop Dunn began establishing churches in England. The congregations comprised a large representation of Jamaicans and other West Indians, who had migrated to England. Bishop Dunn had the idea that those members returning to Jamaica should have access to Bethel branch churches, starting with a headquarters located in Kingston.

The vision thrived and after much planning, visits to the island and successful fundraising, the construction of Organisation’s Headquarters  got underway in 1967. It was officially opened on December 16, 1968. A chartered aircraft carrying over one hundred (100) members from England arrived in Jamaica for to attend the grand opening and week of services that followed.

BUCJC Jamaica is currently 19 assemblies strong with a growing membership of approximately 2000 persons. We continue to build on the foundation laid by astute leaders such as Bishop Ira D. Thompson (list of other Bishops) as we carry out our mission.

The Meaning and Significance of our Logo

The open Bible speaks to the centrality of the Word of God in our message. We believe that the bible is the inherent word of God and it fully reveals the plan of God for man.

The cross speaks to the redemptive and atoning work of Jesus. We believe that through His death all mankind can find salvation.

The island of Jamaica is our mission ground, yet it is but a small part of our global mission commanded by our Lord to “go ye into all the world.”
